Acronym for asymmetric digital subscriber line. ADSL technology and equipment allows digital communication at high speed
across an ordinary twisted-pair telephone line. Currently in the UK, ADSL is capable of speeds of up to
2 Mbps (megabits per second) downstream (to the customer) and up to 640 Kbps (kilobits per second) upstream. Various companies now offer ADSL Internet access, allowing users faster connections than those made through a standard phone line.
